Max Payne is a shooter game developed by Remedy Entertainment for PC, whilst Rockstar helped develop and publish the console ports and was released in 2001.

Gameplay[]

The player takes control of protagonist Max Payne, played in 3rd person as the player is involved in endless shootouts, throughout many linear levels. The game encourages the use of bullet time, a feature that allows the player to temporarily slow down time to improve aim and can also be used as Max performs a shootdodge maneuver, allowing him to dive through the air whilst shooting enemies. Ammo is dropped by enemies that can be picked up, as well as weapons. Some weapons can be dual weilded if Max picks up a weapon that he already has.

Cutscenes are almost completely absent and are replaced by graphic novels that reveal the story and during this, as well as in gamplay, Max is heard speaking in monologue throughout the entire game.
